Garth Brooks announces two Phoenix dates

Country music legend Garth Brooks announced Wednesday that he will perform in Phoenix next month for the first time in 19 years.

Brooks, who retired from performing in 2000 before returning in 2014, is scheduled to perform two shows at US Airways Center (soon to be rechristened Talking Stick Resort Arena) on Friday, Oct. 23, and Saturday, Oct. 24. His wife, and fellow country music singer Trisha Yearwood will perform as well.

Tickets are scheduled to go on sale Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. with a limit of eight tickets per purchase.

Tickets will cost $59.08 but the total price will increase to about $75 after fees and charges are included.

With the release last year of “Man Against Machine,” the singer’s first new album since he topped the charts with “Scarecrow” in 2001, he edged out Elvis Presley to become the biggest-selling solo album artist of all-time in the United States with total sales of more than 135 million. No fewer than six of Brooks’ albums, “Sevens,” “No Fences,” “The Hits,” “Garth Brooks,” “Ropin’ the Wind” and the double album “Double Live,” have all gone 10-times-platinum.

In many way, Brooks paved the way for country music’s infiltration of the mainstream with an approach that draws as much on classic ’70s arena-rock as country.

As Rolling Stone summed up the legend’s impact and appeal in its most recent album guide, “Brooks personifies the kind of slick country music that took Nashville from its Southern working-class roots smack into the politically moderate values of Clinton-era middle-class America. The singer’s mix of country with ’70s-style singer-songwriter music, album-oriented rock and middle-of-the-road pop came just as the Baby Boom generation was looking beyond contemporary pop and classic rock for a new sound to grow old with. But Brooks’ music also resonates with younger heartland fans who fall outside the postpunk and urban demographics. The singer’s impact on popular music cannot be overestimated; his influence runs that deep.”

In the course of doing all that, Brooks has taken home two Grammys and 17 American Music Awards.

His hits include the country chart-toppers “If Tomorrow Never Comes,” “The Dance,” “Friends in Low Places,” “Unanswered Prayers,” “Two of a Kind, Workin’ on a Full House,” “The Thunder Rolls,” “What’s She Doing Now,” “The River,” “Somewhere Other Than the Night,” “That Summer” and “Ain’t Goin’ Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up).” His most recent trip to No. 1 was “More Than a Memory” in 2007. His best-known song remains “Friends in Low Places.”

Paul McCartney to play ACC on Oct. 17 First Toronto stop in five years for former Beatle and his band.

Tireless former Beatle Paul McCartney and his band will grace the Air Canada Centre for their first Toronto show in five years on Oct. 17, concert promoter Live Nation announced on Friday.

It’s the first Canadian date so far on McCartney’s “Out There” tour, which has already wound its way through 22 stops in the U.K., the U.S., Europe, Japan and South Korea, and most recently touched down for an acclaimed performance at the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago on July 31. That performance found the 73-year-old rocker in a “feisty” mood whilst ripping through a generous helping of Beatles, Wings and solo classics, according to the Chicago Tribune, and climaxed with McCartney bringing Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard onstage for a widely circulated duet on “Get Back.”

Tickets for the three-hour Out There extravaganza go on sale next Friday, Aug. 28 at 11 a.m. through Ticketmaster or livenation.com, although American Express cardholders can jump the queue on Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 10 a.m.

Prices have yet to be revealed, but top-tier seats for McCartney’s last show at the ACC on the “Up and Coming” tour topped out around $250 so fans should probably brace their wallets for a hit.

Garth Brooks to perform in Knoxville in May

Garth Brooks announced Wednesday that he’ll take the stage for two concerts in Thompson Boling Arena next month.

Grateful Dead-Santa Clara

skullnroses-final_0

The Grateful Dead will be playing farewell shows in the Bay Area after all.

The legendary band that formed 50 years ago in Palo Alto announced Friday it will perform two “Fare Thee Well” concerts, June 27 and 28, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. In a statement on the band’s website Friday, the surviving members noted that the stadium is just 12 miles from what is essentially the birthplace of the Grateful Dead.

Tickets will be sold via lottery, at prices ranging from $60 to $200.

The news comes three months after the band announced it would perform three shows in Chicago, July 3-5, celebrating the band’s 50th anniversary and putting the touchstone on a storied career that saw a ragtag group of musicians arise from San Francisco’s psychedelic rock scene to become one of the top touring acts in the world and an American cultural icon. But the Chicago shows raised questions and some complaints from fans wondering why the band wouldn’t recognize its birth place with a Bay Area concert.

And after weeks of speculation that additional shows would be scheduled, those fans got the answers they wanted on Friday, along with an assurance for those seeking to be part of history that these are the last dates the band will add.

The Santa Clara concert lineups will be the same as those for Chicago: The four surviving members of the Grateful Dead — Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh and Bob Weir — joined by guitarist Trey Anastasio, best known as the frontman for the wildly popular jam band Phish; and keyboard players Jeff Chimenti and Bruce Hornsby, both of whom have extensive history performing with the Grateful Dead’s many offshoots.

The band took an almost conciliatory tone in announcing the Santa Clara shows on its website Friday, acknowledging that it had to do something for its local fans, many of whom were unable to land tickets for the Chicago shows.

“We have tried to do the right thing wherever we could for the Chicago shows by honoring the roots of where we came from, while dealing with the realities of the current times,” the band said in a statement posted on its website. “But that’s hardly comforting when you’re (expletive) outta luck for tickets and your only option is inflated prices on secondary ticketing websites. That would (tick) us off too.”

The band originally picked Chicago’s Soldier Field for its farewell concerts because the famed stadium hosted the final Grateful Dead shows on July 9, 1995. Singer, guitarist and band leader Jerry Garcia died about a month after those shows and the Grateful Dead disbanded after that, although its musicians continued on in a number of side projects together and individually.

The band also offered that the Santa Clara shows would add a more fitting historical note to its “Fare Thee Well” concerts, noting that the Grateful Dead started “fifty years ago when we grabbed a bunch of instruments off the walls of a music store in Palo Alto.”

A statement by Weir, Hart, Kreutzmann and Lesh said “it has become clear to us that we first need to return to our beginnings, where we first said hello — to each other and to all of you. And so it is that we have decided to plug in for two additional shows on June 27 and 28 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California — just a dozen miles south of where Dana Morgan’s Music Store once stood.”

Fans wanting tickets for the two shows, priced at $59.50-$199.50, can sign up for an online ticket lottery that the band installed on its website, www.dead50.net. The sign-up will be in place through April 14 and those who place requests — with a maximum of four tickets per person, per show — will learn if they have received tickets on April 19, according to the band’s website. The announcement said 65,000 tickets would be sold for each show.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao on sale this week?!

maywetaher

What may be the hottest ticket in Las Vegas right now will go on sale this week.

Two of the world’s greatest boxers, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao will meet May 2 in a welterweight showdown at the MGM Grand.

During an interview on FOX5 Sports Plus on Sunday night, Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe said tickets would go on sale this week, but he would not confirm which day.

When asked how many tickets would be available, Ellerbe only responded, “Quite a few.”

Entry-level tickets to what is being billed as the richest fight in history are reportedly starting at $1,500, and high-end seats will go for $7,500. Sources in the secondary market told FOX5’s Jon Castagnino that floor seats could fetch over $50,000 each.

People planning to watch the on television will also have to shell out some cash. The two cable networks broadcasting the fight announced earlier this month that the suggested retail price for the pay-per-view broadcast of the fight is $89,95 for standard definition and $99.95 for high definition.

Ellerbe said the contract between MGM and the promoters regarding details like ticket allotment and hotel rooms for each fighter’s camps have not been finalized.

“We are working through things, and everything will get done in its due course of time,” Ellerbe said.

According to Vegas.com, rooms at the MGM Grand during fight weekend are averaging $1,684 per night.

Mayweather could earn $120 million or more from the fight’s purse, while Pacquiao’s split will likely be about $80 million.

Motley Crue Announce Final Tour Dates, Last Ever Concert in Los Angeles

One year after signing their Cessation of Touring Agreement and embarking on a long “Final Tour,” Mötley Crüe have revealed the details of their Final Concert: A hometown gig at Los Angeles’ Staples Center on December 31st, 2015. The “Dr. Feelgood” rockers also announced the second North American leg of their Final Tour, where special guest Alice Cooper will once again join them on the road as opening act.

Mötley Crüe will head to Japan in February to play their last gigs there before kickstarting the final North American leg, which begins July 22nd in Eugene, Oregon. Because these tour dates represent the last time the Crüe will perform in all these cities, the band have opted for larger venues on this trek to ensure all their fans can attend. The band will perform at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on August 12th for their last ever New York date.

“In some of the cities, we could only reach a fraction of the fans who wanted to come see us play last year because of ticket demand so we’re coming back to those places to bring them our full production including the Crüecifly drum coaster, as well as all pyro and every other bell and whistle,” bassist Nikki Sixx said in a statement. “Even despite the overwhelming fan demand we can only add so many new cities in North America because of our commitment to take the Final Tour global on our final year.”

As with past tour dates, Mötley Crüe are offering up VIP packages for each show through their website. Local pre-sales for the final Crüe concerts will begin on Thursday, January 22nd, with a public on-sale starting the next day. For the band’s last ever concert in Los Angeles, tickets go on sale Saturday, January 24th at 10 a.m. local time. Check out the group’s official site for more information.

In addition to the Final Tour dates, the band have also unveiled the video for their new single “All Bad Things.” The track will be part of an “ultimate collector’s album package” that will be announced in the near future. To celebrate the band’s Final Tour, Google Play will also give away the Crüe’s Greatest Hits compilation as a free download until January 27th.

Prior to the band’s final concert at the Staples Center, Mötley Crüe will perform one last concert in Las Vegas, though details of that show have yet to be announced.

Luke Bryan added 2015 Dates

Luke Bryan is ready to get dirty. The superstar announced the Kick the Dust Up Tour on Wednesday morning. He is set to hit the road on May 8, and he’s bringing along some very popular opening acts.

Dustin Lynch and Randy Houser will kick off the entirety of the Kick the Dust Up Tour shows, which begin Oct. 30 in Detroit, Mich. For the first time, Bryan will play certain cities on back-to-back nights. He’ll also play headline seven stadium shows.

Those stadium shows will include Florida Georgia Line.

“The ability to go into a city and stay two nights is something I could have only ever dreamed of,” Bryan says. “To be able to roll your world, your tour bus, in and set up a fun little backstage area — it’s amazing we’re in this spot. I can’t thank you fans enough.”

Standing in front of media at the Ford Theater inside the Country Music Hall of Fame, Bryan talked about the tour, as well as his upcoming exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the next Spring Break album, set for a March 10 release. It will be his final Spring Break album, and it will come before two Spring Break concerts, set for March 11 and March 12.

Bryan also spoke about eight international dates set for this winter, as well as a new studio album, the followup to the double-Platinum ‘Crash My Party,’ released in August 2013. Six singles have come from that project, including his current Top 5 hit, ‘I See You.’ The CMA-nominated collection also helped Bryan earn the Entertainer of the Year award in 2015.

Only four songs have been cut for the new project, including ‘Kick the Dust Up.’ The singer says there’s no timetable for the release.
